Spread the Love

This year, I got curious about the practice of expressing love on Valentine’s Day. After doing some research, I found on the website History.com that the oldest known “valentine” still in existence today which is a poem written in 1415 by Charles, Duke of Orleans, to his wife while he was imprisoned.

Currently, Valentine’s Day is the second largest card sending holiday right behind Christmas with a whopping 145 million Valentine cards sent annually.

When I read that, I smiled and thought that represents millions of people that understands the importance of letting people know that they are loved. Expressing love for someone can make a world of a difference in that person’s life. Because, when someone says they love you, they are saying I see value and worth in you. They are often saying you have made a difference in their life and they are better because of you. Telling someone you love them can have a profound and amazing effect on them.

Yes, romantic love is awesome and should be celebrated but, so should brotherly love. Love for one another. Love for your neighbor. Love for your fellow countryman. Love can cause break down barriers and it unite us.

Love is patient and kind. Love is not jealous or boastful or proud or rude. It does not demand its own way. It is not irritable, and it keeps no record of being wronged. It does not rejoice about injustice but rejoices whenever the truth wins out. Love never gives up, never loses faith, is always hopeful, and endures through every circumstance (1 Cor 13:4–7 NLT).

May I suggestion for this Valentine that we all extend Love to those around us. Think about how true these lyrics are for our current times:

What the world needs now is love, sweet love
It’s the only thing that there’s just too little of
What the world needs now is love, sweet love
No, not just for some, oh, but just for every, every, everyone *

Happy Valentine Day

Be Safe, Stay Healthy
